Knowledge of these facts explains why Chios is the subject of an increasing international interest. While bringing out the causes of such a fecund social activity, individual cultural creativity has been heightened. This fact demands an organized presentation of the complete image of the Chian culture, and a secure possibility of public access to all the evidence that diachronically composes that civilization as well.
The Cultural Portal of Chios serves these exact purposes. It aims at writing down all the data about every aspect of Culture within the widest possible length of time up until today.
The up-to-date social process will not be ignored waiting for its historic assessment in future and safe times. On the contrary it participates in forming the common knowing of the Chian culture.
The creation and function of the Cultural Portal has two basic parameters.
- It is a continuous and communicative procedure. To this effect, the contents will be enriched, renewed and broadened on a permanent basis.
- In order to be formed, it intends to gain the active participation of anyone interested.
The only basic requirement for all the above is the documentation of every contributing bit of information or point of view. For this purpose, the submission of any data is free and desirable, by following the simple procedure of sending a signed letter or email with the relevant information. (That includes printed files, image and sound files, original material, electronic information, reproductions of cultural products, historical information etc). The creator or the private owner of any given data has got the exclusive copyrights. Sources and files of public nature should be considered public property, and will be used as such in the creation of the Cultural Portal. The Creation and Support Team will have the last and exclusive responsibility for the Portal’s contents.
The present phase of the development of the Cultural Portal is identified as the creation of an
Initial Database. That suggests the registration of the data and a brief description, where it is available.
It has been under technical restrictions of the already existing level of processing (the way of appearance or entering/ the length/ the documentation of the entries/ the active functions of the entries)
The Cultural Portal has got the following general contents:

The research into the Chian Culture will be the next phase of the Cultural Portal. It will be organized in subject-units, where one could find not only a comparative analysis, but also a more detailed documentation (studies, archives etc).
The Cultural Portal will always be a dynamic procedure aiming to function as a Chian Encyclopedia on the Internet.
